peripheral device events

i'm new to the cab and looking for some insight. i have a card reader device that raises an event when card data is available. i have a card reader service that exposes that component to the rest of the modules in the app much like the filewatcherservice in the appraiserworkbench. my question is whether it's appropriate for a service to publish an event to the broker, or if it's better to use the list of callbacks like the filewatcherservice. if multiple modules need to subscribe to an event from a single publisher, like a card reader (or if multiple modules were watching the same file), i would think the brokerage would be better, but i don't see any examples of a service publishing an event to the broker... which makes me think it's not a good thing to do..

any help would be immensely appreciated!

Raising an event from a service is a very valid use of the event broker.
