I would recommend you to use latest version (v2.0) of Updater App block.

This version has detailed documentation (UpdaterApplicationBlockAlphaDocumentation.doc) on how to establish Quickstarts. And how to develop application using this block. You might want to refer section ‘Developing Applications with the Updater Application Block’
