I need to write some sort of an updates mechanism for an MS Outlook 2003 add-in written in .NET (1.1). The problem with office add-ins is that they are in-process component.

Do you think UAB can help us implementing such a mechanism?

What method do you think is the best to implement (computer wide, self updating, application launcher) consider it's an in-process component?

I tried to play with UAB and had problem regarding the configuration files:
My project output is an assembly dll and is run and hosted by Outlook. How can I use app.config in such scenario? is it a must?

Thanks in advance!

The app.config is must.
UAB will read the app config file of the host application in whose process your add-in runs.
So you might have to create Outlook.exe.config and place it in the same folder where Outlook.exe resides. updaterconfiguration.config file can reside anywhere, whose path you will have to mention in Outlook.exe.config.
