List-Detail UI Pattern & AddNew

I'm trying to build a List-Detail User Interface, e.g. two Views, on with a DataGridView of Customers, and the other with a single Customer in a form view. The idea is that when an item in the list is doubleclicked, the other View is opened to show the details.

My basic question is around the passing of data; in this case, what is the best approach to passing data from the doubleclick on the list, to the point where I am opening the new view with an argument.

I originally had looked at the overload of AddNew(string id), thinking that I could simply specify it there, and that it would be available in the descendant view. But, as I read other posts on the forum, I see that this value is really intended to make the instance of my view unique, so I'd prefer not to bastardize that. Any thoughts on passing data would be appreciated. Thanks.
