Is SCSF new ver of MCSF?

I'm very confused on terminology...and I've been reading much...and a PPC user for 10? years...new to WM devt though.

MS links for MCSF are many times broken...some with repeated clicking and I can get to things.

I am referencing WM Wigley MS book and it mentions MCSF and gives link to SCSF?!?

There were forums on MCSF on gotdotnet which are now 'deprecated' and your new forums on this are marked "v2" and have no comments except for my gripe about installation I think.

I finally got an MCSF app to run native on my 8525 (with manual install of app's Module.dll...built but never copied over with other stuff) and am wondering if SCSF is the "wave of the future".

Does SCSF work with 64-bit whereas MCSF is getting long in tooth and doesn't? Or can you by doing reg hacks and rebuilding (per another forum tip I think) reliably get MCSF on 64-bit?

thanks in advance...

Hi!

MCSF stands for “Mobile Client Software Factory”. From http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480471.aspx

The Mobile Client Software Factory provides integrated guidance to help architects and developers create line-of-business Windows Mobile applications that interact with back-end systems over networks such as WiFi and GPRS that might be intermittently available.

Whereas Smart Client Software Factory is intended for building desktop applications. So MCSF and SCSF are intended for building different kinds of applications.

Regarding MCSF & SCSF with 64 bits, there are some issues with GAX. Anyway, there are some workarounds for installing MCSF in 64bits boxes, maybe this blog post will help you do that.

Hope it helps!
